
WINTER ACTIVITIES
BEAR VALLEY SKI COMPANY - Located approximately 37 miles from Forest Meadows on Hwy. 4 offer 1280 acres of downhill skiing, a 1900 ft. vertical drop and 25 miles of runs for everyone from beginner to expert. Two triple chairs, seven double chairs and two handle tows are capable of handling 12,000 skiers per hour. The 82 different runs can be broken down into 30% beginner, 40% intermediate, and 30% expert. With the longest run being 3 miles.
BEAR VALLEY CROSS COUNTRY - Located approximately 35 miles from Forest Meadows, offers one of the largest groomed trail systems in the country. Call (209) 753-1381.
SNOWMOBILE/ATV (ALL TERRAIN VEHICLES) - The Stanislaus National Forest does allow ATV's and Snowmobiles in specified areas. For more information call the Calaveras Ranger District (209) 795-1381.
SUMMER ACTIVITIES
SWIMMING - There are quite a few lakes and streams that are open to public use. White Pines Lake... The Stanislaus River... Lake Alpine... Spicer Reservoir. The general public may also pay a nominal fee to the pool at the Fitness Center in Arnold. If you are a guest in Forest Meadows, you may use their pools.
TENNIS - As a guest in Forest Meadow you may use one of our 4 courts. There are several "fee" tennis courts available.
BACKPACKING/HIKING - The Stanislaus National Forest Calaveras Ranger District has extensive brochures indicating areas. Please call Calaveras Ranger District at (209) 795-1381.
GOLF - Forest Meadows is a public course and there additional public courses in Arnold, Angels Camp, and Copperopolis.
RIVER RAFTING - Raft down the Stanislaus and see the limestone canyon by the water.
FISHING THE LAKES AND STREAMS
LAKE ALPINE - Located approximately 37 miles above Forest Meadows, 180 acres with depths averaging 40 feet.
MOSQUITO LAKES - On Highway 4 approximately 45 miles above Forest Meadows, two small lakes are stocked regularly during the summer months.
MOKELUMNE RIVER - On Highway 4 approximately 15 miles past lake alpine at Hermit Valley. Good fishing early in the season when water is high.
SPICER RESERVOIR - A large reservoir near Bear Valley with huge views and lots of room for boating. Follow the signs from Highway 4.
STANISLAUS RIVER - Turn off Highway 4 at Boards Crossing across from the Dorrington Hotel approximately 3 miles to the river.
WHITE PINES LAKE - One mile from Arnold. Well stocked with Trout, some Bass & Catfish. Picnic area. Swimming area. No motor boats.
NEW MELONES LAKE....On Highway 49, approximately 2 miles south of Angels Camp, turn at Glory Hole exit. Full marina facilities, boat ramps for Lake Access. Houseboat rental available.
YEAR 'ROUND
CAVERNS TOURS - Mercer Caverns near Murphys, Moaning Caverns near Vallecito, and California Caverns near Mountain Ranch all provide a variety of tours.
WINERIES....There are 8 wineries in and around Murphys, all open daily for wine tasting. Visit California's OTHER WINE COUNTRY.
THEATRE - Three local theatre troupes provide live thespian action.
GALLERIES - There are 6 galleries and many unique shops located in the village of Murphys.
